Bilateral hip and knee replacement in Alkaptonuria
A case of Alkaptonuria which is a very rare metabolic disease of protein metabolism leading to deposition of black pigments in the joints causing early arthritis called ochronotic arthritis. Dr. Mavalankar performed replacement of both hips and knee joints in a patient of Ochronotic Arthritis with excellent result. The patient who was almost bed ridden is now up and about, can walk for 20 minutes and drive car.This is the first case from India and fourth in the whole world where both hips and knee joints have been replaced in one patient suffering from this condition.
